I grew up in a very loving, conservative home, the older of two kids in a military home. Though I had attended church a few times while growing up, as I grew older I became antagonistic towards a religion that taught it had exclusive information about God. Although I held the Bible in high regard, I did not believe it to be divine revelation.

While attached to my first submarine after joining the Navy, I occasionally spent time discussing God and religion with a coworker who was a strong Christian. Although I was skeptical and often argumentative, this man’s consistent faith and lifestyle made a big impression on me.

Several years later, while in the midst of one of those very difficult “life moments,” I decided that I needed to find out for myself if there was something to this “Christianity” stuff. I began reading the Bible, and very quickly became convinced that it was indeed God’s divine revelation. Soon after I began reading the Bible, a lady friend gave me a tract which clearly presented the gospel. Just a short time later, at the age of thirty six years, I came to faith in Jesus as my Lord and Savior while sitting by myself in a barracks room at Mare Island Naval Shipyard. The Holy Spirit had used the faithful testimony of a coworker planting seeds, the reading of God’s word, and a gospel tract given to me by my future wife in the process of bringing me to saving faith.

Prior to my retirement in 2001, it became clear to my wife and me that seminary was the next step in my journey, so we moved to Dallas so that I could attend Dallas Theological Seminary in pursuit of a Master of Theology degree. Before the ink was dry on my diploma, a “no brainer” opportunity to pursue doctoral studies presented itself. After eight years of further study, I completed a PhD in theological studies.

Which brings us to this website. Life can be “messy,” especially when we interact with people, particularly when engaging contemporary issues that really matter to them. Thus, this site is my attempt to engage a variety of subjects from the perspective of faith seeking understanding, in this case, understanding of the issues and the people who care about them.
